i in need of replacement old desktop. while desktop won't gaming computer per-say, want run 2 graphically demanding games, next doom , unreal tournament (as development in unreal engine 4). rest of uses various work related assignments far have been, challenge (its small , older macbook), satisfied laptop.
i'm having difficult time coming conclusion, , recommendations , advice everyones experiences , expertise.
these options have thought of.
custom pc:
know usual suggestion build custom pc. while love idea of customizing , upgrading computer, despise windows , computer used games really. cannot use windows day day or work.
hackintosh:
benefits of pc osx, stability? of time spent in osx, , crucial me performs stable , fluently in it. concerned lost in hackintosh quite literally hack job. there concern on if successful in setting etc... i'm not fan of "non-genuine", though @ low enough price forget it.
loaded imac:
extremely expensive , there concerns on performance of hardware. have had , loved using imacs, @ price no certainty of performance of 780m, uneasy may not satisfy needs in end. of directions though leaning in direction if can meet needs, despite high cost.
old mac pro:
understand of older mac pros have cpu's rival or surpass i7's. on top of allow customization of gpu's etc... have had difficulty in figuring out ones comparable needs, find them, allow customizations etc... has been of mess figure ideal, though remain open idea. had read can loaded imac power lot less , still have mac way, hasn't been simple verify , find such case.
thank you.
i'm in same boat. current thinking : if i'm going spending 65-85% of time gaming, i'm going go diy pc route. trade off using windows - blech - can rationalize away saying "i'll compatible @ least 95% of computing world".
if won't gaming as think be, i'd better off imac, obvious benefits. it's expensive, rationalize away saying "i'll keep 5 yrs, retain it's value, , prefer os x anyway" -which do.
decisions...decisions..
think more in terms of use cases, , how time spend in each. pick.
