iPhone 6/6 Plus- Apple Store Reserving (reserve & pickup in store) vs Waiting in line

since tuesday, i've been going idea of waiting in line pick 64gb 6. went on apple website check out , saw can reserve in store pickup. clicked , gave me list of colours , configurations available didn't understand since phone hasn't been released yet. showed 64gb space grey 6 unavailable @ apple store? mean waiting in line useless without reserving , won't getting on launch day sell people haven't reserved? (note: reserving free , choose time on launch day want pick up)
 

they have stock people without pre orders can't guarantee that. if going wait in line , 1 there early. @ least in top 20 people in line. last year 18th in line , did not have phone wanted (gold 5s 64gb) had go silver 5s. there no pre orders last year 5s.
