hi all, bought pre-owned mac pro 2008 on weekend. using istats menus pro, observed cpu fan reading 0 while rest e.g. (exhaust, hd/expansion, power supply) giving normal range of 599, 799, 846 rpm respectively. yet, bottom fan (of 2 front fans) spinning fast loud noise. cpu temperature istats reasonable @ 37c 70c. there observations several tests have done. a) when detach front fans power, whole unit quiet. confirms noise come either of 2 fronts fans. b) when disable top front fan (detach power), top fan stops spinning , unit noisy btm fan spinning. c) when disable btm front fan, btm fan stops top fan still spinning. unit quiet.
